Leading the way for post-CETL events

This year, the annual Breaking into Music event is being organised by Music Leader in collaboration with Newcastle University Careers and the CETL. The CETL team are delighted that Music Leader, who are key providers of professional development support for musicians, have agreed to take on this major regional event as the CETL draws to a close.

The event takes place on the 10th February at The Sage Gateshead – details below.

Award winning music graduate puts Wansbeck on the map

Angie Turnbull, musician singer and Newcastle University MA graduate, has been awarded CETL funding to record, produce and distribute a CD to help promote the musical community of Wansbeck to promoters, venues and musicians from outside the North East area – at the same time creating a touring network for performing musicians.

Samay Chakra (Raga Cycle) – New learning resource for Hindustani vocalists

The CETL World Music project is currently developing a new pedagogical resource for Hindustani vocal students. We are calling it Samay Chakra, or Rata Cycle. Students of Indian music are often encouraged to study performances by top gurus and ustads in order to develop their own performing skills.

An afternoon with Senior Music Executive Tony Wadsworth

Following the success of his first visit, Tony will be visiting the Newcastle University music department again in January to present a lecture on current issues in the music industry and talk to students informally about their own work.
