Award winning music graduate puts Wansbeck on the map
Angie Turnbull, musician singer and Newcastle University MA graduate, has been awarded CETL funding to record, produce and distribute a CD to help promote the musical community of Wansbeck to promoters, venues and musicians from outside the North East area – at the same time creating a touring network for performing musicians.

CETL is proud to present a new CD of contemporary music by three of Newcastle University’s composers on the staff of ICMuS and three current or recently graduated PhD students.

Samay Chakra (Raga Cycle) – New learning resource for Hindustani vocalists
The CETL World Music project is currently developing a new pedagogical resource for Hindustani vocal students. We are calling it Samay Chakra, or Rata Cycle. Students of Indian music are often encouraged to study performances by top gurus and ustads in order to develop their own performing skills.
An afternoon with Senior Music Executive Tony Wadsworth
Following the success of his first visit, Tony will be visiting the Newcastle University music department again in January to present a lecture on current issues in the music industry and talk to students informally about their own work.
The event will take place on January 7th, 1 -3pm in the CETL Seminar Room.

New Appointment
Dr Paul Fleet has recently been appointed as Lecturer in Music to the CETL and the International Centre of Music Studies (ICMuS) at Newcastle University.
Momenta Quartet at Vamos
This time I3 involved the visit of an extraordinary string quartet, based in New York and made up of four musicians of the highest standard. They are the violinists Miranda Cuckson and Anneliesa Place, the viola player Stephanie Griffin and the cellist Joanne Lin.
