Lucy Fairley, a final year Folk and Traditional Music student at Newcastle University, has been awarded CETL student funding to help her continue to develop her highly successful community music project.
Crossings is a non-profit community music project in Tyneside, bringing together people seeking asylum, refugees and local musicians, to exchange, share and develop their music.
The project offers a creative welcome to refugees and to those seeking asylum, providing them with an opportunity to share their culture with others, to develop new musical skills and to interact with local musicians, creating new collaborative music out of the interaction.
Members of the committee, who came together through the project, are all either asylum seekers, refugees or are/have been involved in working with them.
