‘Another Message’ from performance students

For the third consecutive CETL students at Newcastle have worked creatively and collaboratively to produce a public performance as part of the Collective Performance project.

The project was organised as a series of two-day workshops over four weeks with Pete Churchill, a renowned jazz pianist and song writer. During these four intensive weeks of composing and performing, students learn a wide variety of skills; writing lyrics and composing songs from scratch; harmonising; arranging backing vocals and lead sheets.

The workshops culminated in ‘Another Message’, a public performance entirely created by students, hosted at Culture Lab, Newcastle University, on 7th November.

The workshops leader, Pete Churchill, is an amazing all-round musician – song writer, jazz pianist, musical director, gospel choir leader and inspirational teacher in every style of contemporary music. His jazz harmony classes at the Guildhall School in London are legendary; he now teaches at the Royal Academy of Music and elsewhere. Pete has directed highly successful projects in Newcastle University twice before in 2006 and 2007
