Sound ‘08 Festival at The Sage Gateshead

Sound 08 is a major celebration of the breadth and quality of student music making at the North East’s Universities. The event will fill the concourse and performing spaces of The Sage Gateshead throughout the day on Saturday 16 February 2008

Audiences are offered a panoply of styles and genres – including Klezmer, jazz, rock, folk song and dance, avant garde Music theatre by Mauricio Kagel – as well as a wealth of new singer-songwriter talent. The day also includes a number of short shows for families.

‘Sound’ festivals have been running since 2005, and are now in the forefront of The Sage Gateshead’s partnership with the CETL. Sound ‘08 not only showcases students from across the CETL, it also provides them with a unique and direct form of professional development, so tying in with the CETL’s Working in Music project . All the performers were required to present a ‘pitch’ for their acts to a panel comprising staff from The Sage Gateshead and the Director of CETL. And they have received support and guidance from them during their preparations for the day itself.
