Future CETL

As the CETL for Music and Inclusivity officially draws to a close it leaves a behind a legacy of successfully embedded projects

Funding is in place to support the Sound Festival and Breaking into Music events at The Sage Gateshead for the next two years and the student led Summer Music Festival has become an established annual event at Newcastle University.

The World Music project is thriving in collaboration with regional arts organisations such as Kalapremi, Gem Arts, Pakistan Cultural Society and The Sage Gateshead. Students at Newcastle University continue to study modules in Indian Classical Music, extra curricular opportunities for students from across the university to study Indian Vocals and Tabla with Gurus Dr Vijay Rajput and Shahbaz Hussain will still be available and there will be an ongoing programme of regional Indian Music events. The recent purchase of a Gamelan for shared use across the community will further enhance opportunities for collaborative teaching of World Musics across the North East.

Student projects and creative business ideas will continue to benefit from dedicated enterprise support within the CETL partner institutions, informed by ongoing research into Music students and Entrepreneurship at Durham and Newcastle universities.
