Maybe Myrtle Tyrtle

Over the past year Maybe Myrtle Turtle have moved from seeking small individual bits of funding for gigs to putting the band on a firm business footing. Working with Newcastle University’s Enterprise Centre they put together a bid to the University’s Creativity Fund for £500 and this was match funded by the CETL giving them £1,000 to produce a CD, organise a tour of the UK and put a clear marketing/publicity strategy in place.

Maybe Myrtle Tyrtle are a Newcastle University based band who have been delighting audiences all over the UK with their infectious music comprised of elements from blues, folk, swing-jazz and ska. They call this Squack-abilly-hoppa-blues. They comprise of Robbie Humphries - lead vocals, guitar, harmonica Roger James - guitar David de la Haye - bass Peter Tickell - fiddle Tom Oakes - flute Elliott Rush - saxes Joe Truswell - drum kit Brendan - triangle and foot stomper! They meld influences and instruments to create an addictive mix of psychedelic-blues and acid-folthat is crazed, utterly danceable and recently saw them scoop the coveted 'Demo Of The Month' in The Crack.

Their aural sunshine mixes bluesy rockabilly with skiffle interludes and filters it through a feel-good fairground sound in a woozy triumph.Intoxicating.
